training cohorts

Starting in October 2018, we will be offering several 8 week training cohorts done remotely via Zoom. These short training sessions are meant to equip and release people at Hope to be more effective at living out our values in their homes, workplaces and community.

  • GOSPEL-CENTERED PARENTING #LIVEASFAMILY

What is your calling as a parent? In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children, it’s easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas. Parenting is much more than a to-do list. We need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God—grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents. Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children’s hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy. In this cohort, we will work together to embrace our high calling as parents. Here are a couple of the books that will guide our discussion.

  • RHYTHM OF INCARNATIONAL LIVING #LOVELIKEJESUS

Jesus became like us to reach us. Likewise, we are called to "enflesh" ourselves in the lives of others to share and show to Jesus. For the sake of people, He went far outside social and religious norms. He did this so often that he developed the reputation “a friend of sinners.” (Luke 7:34). Together, we will coach each other in building intentional relationships with those who are yet to believe. Here are a few of the books we will be walking through:

  • FAITH IN THE WORKPLACE #lOVELIKEJESUS

We spend most of our waking hours during the week at work. It can be extremely difficult to maintain a Christian mindset in the workplace?  The Christian view of work—that we work to serve others, not ourselves—can provide the foundation of a thriving professional and balanced personal life. Excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity, and passion in the workplace can help others and even be considered acts of worship—not just of self-interest. Together in this cohort, we will brainstorm ways that we be missionaries in the workplace and look for opportunities to love like Jesus. Here is one of the books that will guide our discussion: Every Good Endeavor by Tim Keller.

  • BIBLICAL COUNSELING #BEWITHGOD

Real change doesn't happen by merely modifying behavior or managing sin. Develop the tools to dig past the surface to identify heart issues and uncover hidden idols. Learn how to apply the power and freedom of the gospel to your life and the lives of others. One of the books that will guide our discussion is: Soul Architecture: Building Your Story on a Gospel Foundation by Aaron Porter.

  • DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING #BEWITHGOD

Most Christians are rarely becoming like the people we read about in Scripture.

They may come to a worship service, join a small group or even tithe, but their lives just don't seem to look like Jesus' life. The last instruction Jesus gave all of us was to "make disciples" (Matthew 28:19). A disciple is simply someone who walks like Jesus. Personally, this can be daunting. As we think of investing in others, it can be overwhelming and intimidating. In this cohort, you will learn simple tools and practices to spiritually invest in the lives of others. Here is one of the books that will guide our discussion: Building a Disicpling Culture by Mike Breen.
